Sonia Gandhi US Court Summons - Indian Government reacts through a pawn - Devyani Khobragade
Never before you would have seen a hue and cry by senior Indian Ministers over mistreatment of an diplomat in US. There were lot of Indians who were humiliated. President A P J Abdul Kalam was frisked in the US in 2011. In 2010, India’s U.N. envoy, Hardeep Puri,who wore a turban for religious reasons, was reportedly asked to remove it during an airport security check. In the same year Indian ambassador Meera Shankar was taken to another room and strip searched because she was wearing a sari. All these had reactions but not the one like Devyani Khobragade
Sonia Gandhi Summoned
Congress president Sonia Gandhi was served a US court summons in hospital, in a case accusing her of shielding party leaders allegedly involved in the anti-Sikh riots of 1984. This summons doesn't allow Sonia Gandhi to enter US without being arrested. Since she is not a government figure (PM or President), she doesn't have the immunity. The Congress government in India seems to have taken this up with Mr John Kerry. However, Mr Kerry refused to interfere
